The AAQ holds, weather permitting, a deep sky field night and a lunar and planetary field night for members, their guests and visitors each month between March and November inclusive. Field nights are not held from December to February due to the generally adverse weather conditions. The AAQ also participates in Queensland Astrofest, the annual astronomical observing camp organised by the combined astronomical societies of Queensland. |

AAQ Meetings

The AAQ holds an Annual General Meeting at the beginning of the year, usually in February, and monthly Ordinary General Meetings thereafter. The AAQ also participates in the Queensland Combined Societies meeting and AstroQuiz.
The Ordinary General meetings have a format of brief business proceedings followed by a main item which is usually a presentation by a speaker on an astronomical topic. The main item is followed by Section Director's reports and Tabling of Observations.
Ordinary General meetings:
- Held in the Main Lecture Theatre in the Parnell Building, UQ, St Lucia, Brisbane.
- Visitors are welcome. Just look for the Theatre door at left through the main entrance.
- The venue has toilet facilities for the use of visitors.
- There is free off-street parking available at the site.
- Meetings are followed (weather permitting) by night sky observing on the lawns outside.

Lunar & Planetary Observing

The lunar and planetary field nights are held at a variety of locations in and around Brisbane. The aim of these field nights is to observe the fascinating objects within the solar system. Deep Sky Observing

The deep sky field nights are held at dark sky sites away from the interferring light pollution of the city to allow the observation and photography of fainter stellar and non-stellar objects outside the solar system. Special Excursions

The AAQ organises, as the opportunity arises, excursions to sites of astronomical interest for its members. Some previous excursions are: - April 1999 - Astrotour to Anglo-Australian Observatory at Siding Springs and the Australia Telescope at Narrabri.
- April 2000 - South East Queensland Astrotour.
- June 2001 - Solar Eclipse Safari to Zimbabwe and South Africa.
- December 2002 - Solar Eclipse Trip to Ceduna. South Australia.
